As part of its ambitious Apple 2030 goal, the company plans to achieve carbon neutrality across its entire carbon footprint by the end of this decade.
According to the articles of the Newsroom Apple website, I give you two examples that illustrate this ambition:
1-MacBook Pro:
MacBook Pro: Durability and Sustainability
The new MacBook Pro is designed to be incredibly durable, crafted from a custom alloy that uses 100 percent recycled aluminum in its enclosure. It also incorporates 100 percent recycled rare earth elements in all magnets, along with 100 percent recycled tin soldering, gold plating, and copper in multiple printed circuit boards.
Eco-Friendly Packaging
The packaging for the 14-inch MacBook Pro is now entirely fiber-based, contributing to the reduction of plastic use. This initiative aligns with the 16-inch MacBook Pro and brings Apple closer to its goal of eliminating plastic from its packaging by 2025.
2-Mac mini: Apple’s First Carbon Neutral Device
The new Mac mini represents Apple’s commitment to sustainability as its first carbon neutral Mac. This achievement marks a significant milestone toward Apple’s goal of being carbon neutral across its entire carbon footprint by 2030.
Sustainable Materials and Energy Sources
The Mac mini is crafted with over 50 percent recycled content, including 100 percent recycled aluminum in the enclosure, 100 percent recycled gold plating in all Apple-designed printed circuit boards, and 100 percent recycled rare earth elements in all magnets. The manufacturing process is powered by 100 percent renewable electricity. To offset the electricity consumed by customers using the Mac mini, Apple has invested in clean energy projects globally. Additionally, Apple prioritizes lower-carbon shipping methods, such as ocean freight, to further reduce transportation emissions. Collectively, these efforts have led to an over 80 percent reduction in the Mac mini's carbon footprint. For the remaining emissions, Apple utilizes high-quality carbon credits from nature-based projects, including those generated by its innovative Restore Fund.
Eco-Friendly Packaging
In another significant development, the packaging for the Mac mini is now entirely fiber-based, aligning with Apple’s goal to eliminate plastic from its packaging by 2025.
