Every update of the Android operating system brings a host of new features. Although details about Android 16 are still limited, some announcements from Google provide an initial glimpse into the upcoming functionalities for your smartphone. Here are the expected improvements.

Upcoming Features in Android 16

1-Embedded Photo Picker

One of the key features of Android 16 is the Embedded Photo Picker. This new version will allow developers to integrate a photo selector directly within their applications. The goal is to enhance the user experience by making the media selection process smoother. Additionally, this feature will strengthen security by limiting the permissions granted to applications, thereby protecting user data.

2-Health Records

Another significant addition in Android 16 is the Health Records API. This feature will enable applications to manage health records in FHIR format, allowing them to read and write medical data with the explicit consent of the user. Currently, this functionality is still in testing within an early access program, but it promises to enhance how health information is handled on Android devices.

3-Privacy Sandbox

Android 16 will also introduce the latest update to the Privacy Sandbox. This initiative aims to bolster user privacy by reducing data collection and sharing. The Privacy Sandbox will include a dedicated runtime environment for SDKs, keeping them separate from main applications, thus further protecting user information.

4-Major and Minor API Versions

A new system in Android 16 will differentiate between APIs introduced in major and minor versions. This will simplify the integration of new features while maintaining compatibility across different applications. Developers can expect a more streamlined process for implementing updates.

5-Quarterly Updates

To ensure continuous improvements, Google will implement quarterly updates for Android 16. These updates will occur in Q1 and Q3, in addition to major API updates scheduled for Q2 and Q4. This approach will keep devices up-to-date with the latest enhancements and security fixes.

Compatible Smartphones and Devices with Android 16

Currently, the list of compatible devices has not yet been released. However, similar to previous versions, the Pixel phones will lead the way. The following models are expected to be compatible with Android 16, pending official confirmation:
